The House of Representatives’s approval of a defense budget of Rp 187.1 trillion ($11.5 billion) for 2026, a significant allocation aimed at strengthening the military’s capabilities, was justified by Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto on Sunday (21/9/2025)/

“Advanced weapons are expensive. Very expensive,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.. 

Commander Agus added that the budget would ensure Indonesia’s sovereignty, improve national security, and create a safer environment for both citizens and foreign investors.

He stressed that other nations spend far more on defense, citing Pakistan as an example. He emphasized that such budgets allow militaries to secure their territories and protect their populations. 

The DPR approval came after the Ministry of Defense and the TNI argued that modern weaponry requires substantial investment.
