Security forces from the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (INP) are working to evacuate 11 bodies of gold miners killed by an armed criminal group (KKB) near Camp Kali Fis, Kawe Village, Awinbon District, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua Mountains on 18 May 2026.

“Although the site is within Bintang Mountains, access is easier from Boven Digoel in South Papua,” said Boven Digoel Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Wisnu Perdana Putra on Friday (22/5/2026), as reported by antaranews.com. 

He confirmed coordination is ongoing with military units and local authorities to secure survivors and victims.
