Chief of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police, Police Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal, planted 10,000 various tree seeds with the environmentalist community in Tumpak village, Pujut district, Central Lombok regency, which is the buffer region of the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK Mandalika), Kuta, on Sunday (28/11).
Chief of NTB Regional Police explained that the protection of nature is not only the duty of armed personnel but also the society to ensure synergy between security forces and the people, such as the Healthy Village programme launched a while ago in NTB.
"The duty of Indonesian National Police is to protect and serve people, but Police also need help from the youths to maintain security and order", Chief of NTB Regional Police said.
The Chief of NTB Regional Police highly appreciated the youths who have started the environmentalist movement, which marked the advanced way of thinking. Moreover, the Tumpak village becomes the buffer zone of KEK Mandalika that has been tested by the international event on its Mandalika circuit.
"We are here to support the students and other stakeholders to conduct greening actions", Chief of NTB Regional Police said.
The local person, Burhanuddin, asked for the seriousness of the Police personnel to maintain forest not to be illegally cut down, which could lead to landslides and other disasters.
"Thank you to Mr Chief of NTB Regional Police and the Central Lombok Departmental Police for visiting. I hope Police and other governmental apparatus could maintain NTB forests to be free from illegal logging conducted by irresponsible people", he concluded.
