inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. The torch relay for the National Sports Week (PON) XXI Aceh-North Sumatra 2024 finally arrived in Banda Aceh City, after traveling around the province by crossing 23 districts/cities.

"This torch relay is a symbol of spirit and togetherness, a fire that ignites our spirit to compete fairly," said Acting Mayor of Banda Aceh Ade Surya, on Friday (9/6/2024) in Banda Aceh.

The source of the fire for the XXI Aceh-North Sumatra PON torch was taken from Mount Merapi Jaboi, Sabang, on Tuesday (8/27/2024).

Starting from Weh Island, Sabang, PON XXI torch moved to the districts of Aceh Jaya, Aceh Jaya, West Aceh, Simeulue, Nagan Raya, Southwest Aceh, South Aceh, and Aceh Singkil, Subulussalam. Next, to Southeast Aceh, Gayo Lues, Aceh Tamiang, Langsa, East Aceh, North Aceh, Lhokseumawe, Bireuen, Bener Meriah, Central Aceh, Pidie Jaya, Pidie, Aceh Besar, and ending in Banda Aceh.

Next, the torch will spend the night at the Banda Aceh Mayor's Hall. Then on Saturday, September 7th, it will be handed over to the Aceh Government, to then be lit on the cauldron torch on the opening night of PON XXI Aceh-North Sumatra on September 9th, 2024 at the Harapan Bangsa Stadium, Banda Aceh.

On that occasion, Ade emphasized that PON is the biggest sporting event in Indonesia which brings together the best athletes from across the country to compete in various sports.

"Through PON, we can show the world that Aceh can successfully host this massive event and is able to organize this national event well," he said.
