inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. For the people living on the coast, vulnerable to megathrust earthquakes, they are appealed to understand the importance of preparation in facing the megathrust threat.

“Megathrust may happen but when it would happen, we do not know. All we can do is whether the location will be affected by the disaster or not,” says Director of Preparedness for the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Pangarso Suryotomo on Friday (9/6/2024).

In his statement, he conveyed that BNPB have done many preparations, including through Disaster Resistant Village. In this program, people were trained for evacuation.

“This evacuation training is important so when there’s a dangerous disaster, people can evacuate to a more secure place,” explains Suryotomo.

In the training, people are trained to move to the evacuation points. The program have been implemented to hundreds of Indonesian villages with the goal of preparing denizens with the megathrust.
