Inp.polri.go.id - Surakarta. The Ministry of Transportation has outlined its main traffic management strategy ahead of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays, anticipating heavy congestion on key national routes.

“We have prepared core strategies to mitigate traffic congestion during the end-of-year holiday surge,” said Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan on Sunday (16/11/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.

Speaking at a coordination meeting in Surakarta for Central Java and Yogyakarta, Aan said the plan is based on previous years’ evaluations. Measures include expanding road capacity through one-way schemes, contraflow, and potential odd-even restrictions, especially on routes to tourist destinations.

The ministry is also finalizing rules limiting the operations of trucks with three or more axles on toll roads during peak travel periods. A delaying system, which is intentionally slowing and diverting vehicle flows to prevent gridlock, is being prepared with careful assessment to avoid shifting congestion elsewhere.

With the holidays coinciding with peak rainy season, authorities are also preparing disaster-mitigation posts and heavy equipment for potential landslide- and flood-prone zones.
