Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Two gold miners have been rescued after surviving a deadly attack by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Yahukimo, Papua Mountains, by hiding in the jungle for eight days, according to the Damai Cartenz Task Force on Tuesday (15/4/2025).
The survivors, identified as Johanis Adu from East Nusa Tenggara and Suwito from North Sumatra, emerged from the forest near Tanjung Pamali when they saw the task force evacuating the bodies of their slain colleagues.
“They approached the Damai Cartenz team and were then transported to Dekai,” said Damai Cartenz Task Force spokesperson Senior Superintendent Yusuf Sutejo, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The attack by KKB in Yahukimo and Bintang Mountains regencies killed 15 people—14 of whom were working at a gold mining site in Yahukimo.
Humanitarian operations are underway as of Tuesday, with joint personnel from the Indonesian National Police (INP) and the Indonseian Military (TNI) continuing to comb mining sites for any remaining victims.
