inp.polri.go.id - Palu. Two illegal gold miners (PETI) were reported dead buried by a landslide in the concession area of PT Citra Palu Mineral (CPM), Tuesday.

According to information gathered, they died in the Kijang 30 area, Poboya Village, Mantikulore District, Palu City. Both victims are known to have come from outside Palu City. One of them was a resident of Palolo, Sigi Regency, who died at the scene. The other victim was from Gorontalo and was declared dead on the way to the hospital.

The Palu Sub-regional Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Deny Abrahams, confirmed the incident.

He explained that a rock slide from the top of the hill was suspected to be the main cause of the fatal incident.

"Yes, we received a report of two fatalities due to illegal mining activities in the Kijang 30 area. The initial suspicion is that the victims were hit by rock landslide material from the top of the hill," he said.

He continued, the victim identification process is still ongoing. However, the police are experiencing obstacles in gathering information in the field because local residents are reluctant to provide information.

"We are still investigating the identities of the victims, but the process of gathering information in the field is quite constrained, because the community has not been open in providing information," he said.

Until now, the police are still conducting further investigations. The community is advised not to carry out mining activities in landslide-prone areas for the safety of all.
