inp.polri.go.id - The United States Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, condemned the Russian delegation to the full for continuing to support President Vladimir Putin despite launching an invasion of Ukraine and making the global economy worse. Yellen urged Russia to take responsibility for the "terrible consequences" of the war started by Putin. He made this criticism when speaking at the opening session of the meeting of ministers of finance and central bank governors of G20 countries in Bali, Thursday (15/7). "I condemn Russia's brutal and unfair war in the strongest possible terms. By starting this war, Russia takes full responsibility for the devastating effects on the global economy, especially higher commodity prices," Yelle said. To reporters in Bali, Yellen emphasized that Russian officials should not be accepted at the G20 meeting this time. He also called on the global community to urge Russia to be brought to justice for its war in Ukraine which also has an impact on global food and energy security. Yellen stressed that Russian officials attending the meeting "add to the dire consequences of war through their continued support for the Putin regime." "You share the responsibility for the innocent lives lost and the ongoing human and economic toll that wars cause around the world," Yelen said. During the meeting, the Russian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Finance of Russia Timur Maksimov. Meanwhile, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov participated in the meeting virtually while Yellen spoke. On that occasion, Yellen also urged the G20 countries to implement restrictions on Russian oil prices to help lower energy prices and maintain global oil supplies following the sanctions imposed on Russia. It is not clear whether the US and other Western delegations will leave the meeting room when the Russian delegation speaks as did the last G20 finance ministers meeting in Washington. Western countries, especially the US, continue to urge Russia to be barred from participating in this year's G20 meeting which was held by Indonesia as a strong rejection of its invasion of Ukraine in February. Yellen has even threatened the US delegation will not attend the G20 meeting in Bali if Russia is still invited to participate in the forum. However, Indonesia as the President of this year's G20 emphasized that it remained neutral and invited all members including Russia.
