Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vietnamese President Tô Lâm has asked Indonesia to train Vietnamese military officers for United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions during a meeting with Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto in Hanoi on Saturday (14/9/2024).

President Lâm expressed his desire for Indonesia to share its expertise in peacekeeping and train Vietnamese officers, according to antaranews.com.

Minister Prabowo acknowledged the strong defense cooperation between the two nations, noting that Vietnam is currently hosting Indonesian officers to learn Vietnamese, while Indonesian officers are learning Indonesian in Indonesia. These language skills are essential for their participation in Indonesian staff and command schools.

Since 1957, Indonesia has contributed to UN peacekeeping missions worldwide, including in Lebanon, Central African Republic, and South Sudan. It also operates the Peacekeeping Mission Center (PMPP) to prepare and train troops for these missions.

President Lâm is the first Vietnamese leader Minister Prabowo has met during his Hanoi visit, which started on Friday.
