Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. West Java Regional Police have questioned 11 witnesses regarding a deadly crowd crush that occurred during a public celebration at the wedding of Governor Dedi Mulyadi’s son Maulana Akbar and Garut Regency Deputy Regent Putri Kalina.
The incident left three people dead and 30 others hospitalized.
“Garut Sub-regional Police have examined 11 people to obtain their testimonies regarding the crowd surge and trampling incident at Pendopo Garut,” said West Java Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Hendra Rochmawan on Tuesday (22/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The case is now being handled directly by the West Java Regional Police’s Directorate of General Criminal Investigation. Authorities plan to summon additional parties, including local officials, police officers, event organizers, vendors, victims’ families, and witnesses.
Initial findings suggest the tragedy stemmed from overcrowding as thousands of attendees scrambled to receive 5,000 free meal packages, which is far fewer than the number of guests present.
