Inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. West Java Regional Police revealed on Tuesday (15/7/2025) that at least 24 infants were trafficked to Singapore by a 12-member syndicate, following an investigation into a child abduction case in Bandung.
“We discovered the suspects had already taken 24 babies,” said West Java Police Director of Criminal Investigation Senior Superintendent Surawan, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Most babies originated from West Java, then transferred to Jakarta, Kalimantan, and finally destined for Singapore. Police rescued five babies in Pontianak, West Kalimantan and one in Tangerang, Banten, now under protective care.
The babies, sold for Rp 11–16 million (around USD 670–980) each, were reportedly adopted by Singaporean citizens. The syndicate operated since 2023, with roles ranging from recruiters and caregivers to document forgers and cross-border traffickers.
Some infants were allegedly sold before birth, with arrangements starting during pregnancy.
West Java Police is collaborating with Interpol to trace additional victims overseas and pursue an international investigation.
