Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo reported that the number of forest and land fire hotspots in West Kalimantan has continued to decline, thanks to coordinated cross-sectoral measures, including weather modification.
“Yesterday, there were about 32 hotspots, if I’m not mistaken. Over the past two days, the number has decreased, and I see that the weather modification efforts have been effective, significantly aiding fire suppression,” he said on Friday (8/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Essential operations involve joint efforts by the INP, the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), local administrations, volunteers, and communities. Teams are divided into ground and air task forces, the latter equipped with water bombing and cloud seeding capabilities.
Chief Sigit stressed that prevention is equally important, urging public education to stop land clearing by burning.
He called for sustained vigilance, especially in peatland areas prone to ignition, and maintained unity among stakeholders as directed by President Prabowo Subianto.
