Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government has eventually designated Monday, 18 August 2025, as an additional collective leave day to commemorate the Independence, following the national holiday on 17 August 2025.
The decision was signed by Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Rini Widyantini, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, and Minister of Manpower Yassierli through a Joint Ministerial Decree on Thursday.
“This moment is an opportunity to strengthen social bonds and national unity, in line with the President’s programs. It reflects the government’s commitment to the people, while essential public services will continue to operate,” Minister Rini said on Friday (8/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Collective leave is not a public holiday. Private companies may or may not enforce it, and taking collective leave will deduct from an employee’s annual leave entitlement.
According to the decree, essential public services such as healthcare, security, transportation, and other vital operations, must remain functional. Government institutions and companies serving the public are authorised to assign staff as needed to ensure uninterrupted services.
The collective leave, part of the updated 2025 national holidays and collective leave schedule, aims to allow the public to participate in post-Independence Day celebrations, including the People’s Festival and Independence Carnival.
The government hope the extra day off will boost community spirit, optimism, and creativity nationwide.
