Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura.  Superintendent Commanding Officer Michael Auirap, Chief of West Sepik Police in Papua New Guinea (PNG), is exploring collaboration with Papua Regional Police to address marijuana smuggling. Acknowledging the vulnerability of the Indonesia-PNG border to marijuana smuggling, Superintendent Auirap stated, "It is true that the border area between Indonesia-PNG is vulnerable to the smuggling of marijuana from PNG," as reported by antaranews.com on Wednesday (3/4/2024). Economic factors have driven many PNG residents to smuggle marijuana into Jayapura. Auirap hopes that cooperation between the two police forces can effectively combat such activities. He noted that marijuana possession in PNG is illegal and punishable by up to 7 years in prison. "Hopefully, marijuana smuggling cases can be reduced through collaboration between the two police forces at the border," he emphasized. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
