Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The World Health Organisation (WHO) launched CoViNet, a new network for Corona virus on Wednesday (3/27/2024). The new network facilitates and coordinates the capability and capacity of global in detecting SARS-CoV-E, MERS-CoV, and new coronavirus.
CoViNet expands the WHO Covid-19 reference laboratory network that was established in the early days of the pandemic.
Initially, the laboratory network was focused on SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.
Now, the network will handle a wider range of coronavirus, including MERS-CoV and other new coronavirus potential. CoViNet is a global laboratory reference that is able to oversee coronavirus on human, animal, and the environment.
“Coronavirus repeatedly showed its epidemic and pandemic risk. We are thankful with our colleagues from around the world who continuously tried to figure out the high-risk coronavirus such as SARS, MERS, and Covid-19, and also tried to detect any new coronavirus,” said the Acting Director of WHO Department of Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness and Prevention, Maria Van Kerkhove in a press conference on Thursday (3/28/2024).
The network includes 36 laboratorium from 21 countries in the six regions of WHO. Kerkhove hopes that members of WHO are more prepared in early detection, risk evaluation, and respond to the health challenges related to the coronavirus. CoViNet enables global health experts to be linked.
