Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A 23-year-old woman jumped from the 19th floor of Tower Jasmine, Kalibata City, South Jakarta, after panicking upon finding a stranger in her apartment.
The intruder was later confirmed as a man, identified as MAJ (37), UNHCR-registered refugee from Afghanistan with mental health issues.
South Jakarta Immigration official Oktinardo said on Thursday (10/7/2025) that he is a legal refugee under UNHCR protection. Immigration and security officials found psychiatric medication in his room, confirming his condition.
The woman had briefly left her unit to seek help during a power outage, forgetting to lock her door. Upon returning, she encountered the man inside and, in panic, fled to the balcony and jumped.
She survived, suffering leg fractures and is recovering in hospital.
Authorities confirmed that MAJ receives monthly remittances from family in Afghanistan or relatives abroad. UNHCR regulations limit refugee stay in Indonesia to a maximum of nine years.
