inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) stated that the role of women is very important in disaster management.

“Women play an important role in disaster mitigation efforts in every role they take,” says the Vice of Community Empowerment, Population, and Manpower Sector of National Development Planning Ministry, Maliki, on Sunday (3/23/2025).

As of now, the understanding about disaster has not yet touched on women and the disabled, which makes the gender approach on the issue must be strengthened to boost their role in disaster mitigation efforts.

Women, says Maliki, can play various roles during the three phases of the disaster, the pre-disaster, disaster, and post-disaster.

"Women and people with disabilities are vulnerable and marginalized groups who will be more affected by climate change and disaster risks, because they have limited access and social exclusion that reduces safety nets," said Deputy Maliki.

He said that inclusive access to preparedness services ensures that pre-disaster training, disaster preparedness infrastructure, and disaster information can be accessed and received by vulnerable groups, including women and people with disabilities.

Strengthening safety nets and inclusive rehabilitation of women and people with disabilities is considered to require inclusive and gender-based safety nets and post-disaster rehabilitation schemes.
