Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) has called on the public to refrain from "panic buying" electricity tokens, despite the government’s 50% discount on electricity rates for households with up to 2,200 VA capacity.
YLKI Chairman Tulus Abadi said on Friday (3/1/2025) the importance of purchasing tokens based on actual needs, rather than overbuying due to the discount, which is valid until February 2025.
"The savings from this program should be used for more productive purposes," he advised, as reported by antaranews.com.
The electricity discount aims to help households cope with the 12% VAT increase. It applies automatically for prepaid and postpaid customers of 450 VA to 2,200 VA capacities.
Tulus also praised the government for targeting lower-income groups, whose purchasing power has been declining. However, he urged middle and upper-class consumers not to complain, as they are not the intended beneficiaries.
