inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Deputy III of the Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) for Economic Affairs, Edy Priyono, highlighted the high price of garlic in the market. Currently, the average price of garlic has reached IDR 43,700 per kilogram, exceeding the HAP of IDR 38,000.
“We have been saying this too many times. But the point is we are at the end of the year, and the Trade Ministry has been ordered to give sanctions to importers who do not realize and distribute garlic properly," he said on Friday (12/6/24).
In his statement, he emphasized that 95% of national garlic needs depend on imports. Although most of it is imported, the price of garlic remains expensive, indicating a problem in its distribution.
Furthermore, he asked the Ministry of Trade to impose strict sanctions on importers who do not carry out their obligations. It is hoped that these importers will no longer be given import permits in the coming year.
At the end of the opportunity, he also reminded the importance of ensuring that imported garlic is sold at a fair price. According to him, the price of garlic should be cheap like in other consumer countries.
