inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Metro Jaya Regional Police spoke about the issue revolving around ambulance license plates as they were recorded as having committed many violations by the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) system.
Traffic Director of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Komarudin clarified that the ambulance driver only had to confirm with the officer. He ensured that the ambulance carrying the patient was a priority vehicle.
"Ambulances carrying patients are priority vehicles. They just need to confirm it with the officers," Komarudin explained on Friday (4/11/2025).
Continued by the Head of the Traffic Law Enforcement, Superintendent Ojo Ruslani, the ETLE system indeed works automatically and objectively without being able to assess the emergency situation on the road.
However, the police emphasized that ambulances carrying patients or bodies in emergency conditions have priority rights on the road, as regulated in Articles 134 and 135 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation.
"ETLE cameras cannot distinguish whether the violating vehicle is carrying out a humanitarian mission or not. This system works based on algorithms and sensors, not direct human judgment," said Ojo.
