inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. The South Sumatra Regional Police are identifying victims of the ALS bus and PT Seleraya tanker truck accident in North Musi Rawas (Muratara) Regency. Sixteen body bags of the deceased arrived at Bhayangkara Mohammad Hasan Hospital in Palembang at 5:10 a.m. this morning.
The identification process was intensively carried out by the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Team from the South Sumatra Regional Police, along with the DVI Team from the Indonesian National Police (INP) Headquarters.
This step was taken to confirm the identities of the victims, the majority of whom suffered serious burns from the fire. To date, the total number of victims recorded is 20, consisting of 16 fatalities, 3 seriously injured, and 1 slightly injured.
According to police reports, the accident occurred on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at approximately 12:00 PM on the Trans-Sumatra Highway in Karang Jaya Village, Muratara Regency.
"This tragic incident is believed to have begun when the ALS bus, traveling from Lubuk Linggau to Jambi, attempted to avoid a pothole but lost control, veered into the right lane and collided with a tanker truck coming from the opposite direction," explained the Head of Public Relations for the South Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Nandang Mu'min Wijaya, on Thursday (5/7/2026).
At the scene, he said, officers secured several pieces of important evidence, including the burned remains of both vehicles, gas cylinders, motorcycle engines, and other personal belongings of the passengers.
He stated that the police are fully committed to assisting the victims' families during the identification process. The South Sumatra Regional Police have also established a DVI Post Call Center at +6282178038910 to facilitate the public in obtaining valid information regarding their family members.
"We ensure that the law enforcement and victim identification processes are carried out professionally and transparently," said Nandang.
He also urged the public to remain aware when driving and always obey traffic signs to prevent similar incidents.
