Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. New Zealand’s Minister for Trade and Investment Todd McClay hailed the mutual recognition agreement on halal certification between Wellington and Jakarta as a “major achievement.”
“We are very proud to have signed this Memorandum of Understanding. It is a very significant accomplishment,” he told antaranews.com on Thursday (7/8/2025).
Minister McClay said the long-negotiated halal guarantee reflects deep trust built over years between the two governments.
Minister McClay, who also serves as Minister for Agriculture and Forestry, noted that nearly all New Zealand dairy and meat products are already halal-certified. He stressed that for New Zealand producers, halal standards are simply “part of doing business,” and the Memorandum of Understanding offers certainty for exporters to enter Indonesia’s market.
The agreement, signed in June, covers halal guarantees for food, beverages, and animal-based products traded between the two nations, expanding Indonesia’s global halal ecosystem and supporting its vision to become a world halal hub.
