Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi dismissed concerns that a 4.6% drop in Eid homecoming travelers this year reflects a weakening economy.

Speaking after a post-Eid event on Saturday (12/4/2025), he noted the decline—from 162.2 million travelers in 2024 to 154.6 million in 2025—was modest and insufficient to conclude a drop in purchasing power.

“We believe it’s too early to say this indicates economic weakening,” Minister Dudy said, adding the single-digit dip could stem from changing preferences, with more people opting to celebrate in cities like Jakarta.

He stressed that further analysis is needed to determine the true cause.

“We don’t want to jump to conclusions without deeper review,” he added, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The Ministry of Transportation will continue monitoring supporting indicators before issuing any firm conclusions about the travel pattern shift.

Minister Dudy reiterated that the current data doesn’t point to significant economic concern, and that behavioral factors may play a larger role.
