Inp.polri.go.id - Karawang. The discovery of mixed medical and domestic waste in a residential area of Karangligar Village, West Karawang, has been linked to the negligence of two private hospitals, according to the Karawang Environment and Sanitation Office.

Following a field verification, Karawang Head of the Environment Office Iwan Ridwan said on Saturday (12/4/2025)) that improperly discarded medical waste, including syringes, IV tubes, and plastic bottles, was found in black garbage bags instead of the regulated yellow ones used for hazardous materials.

“This indicates a failure to follow proper waste management procedures,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The waste was allegedly traced to Bayukarta Hospital and Hermina Hospital. Iwan emphasized that the waste mix-up most likely occurred at the hospital level, not by third-party waste handlers.

Both hospitals have been summoned for preliminary questioning. Potential administrative sanctions from the Karawang government are being considered, including written warnings up to possible operational permit revocation. However, any criminal sanctions will depend on police investigation outcomes.

“The government has authority to impose administrative penalties, but any legal consequences are the jurisdiction of the police,” said Karawang Regency Assistant Wawan Setiawan.
