Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Batam Authority, better known as BP Batam, has recorded that 291 households on Rempang Island have voluntarily registered for relocation, showing another development in the Island's development project.
"According to data, the number of households that have registered up to this point is 291. Hopefully, this process goes smoothly," said the Head of BP Batam, Muhammad Rudi, on Tuesday (26/9).
The 291 households represent residents from 16 villages on Rempang Island. An additional 427 households have sought consultations regarding relocation following BP Batam's persuasive approach, he said as reported by antaranews.com
There are around 2,700 households in the island.
Three of the registered households have already moved to temporary accommodations, receiving rental subsidies and living allowances from BP Batam, with ongoing support until new housing is ready.
Rudi highlighted that this relocation was voluntary, with no coercion or external intervention.
Rempang residents have been recently staging protests against the development plan, dubbed a national strategic project, that will see the construction of a glass-manufacturing center spearheaded by PT Makmur Elok Graha, which has partnered with China’s Xinyi Group.
