inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. The South Sumatra Regional Police have returned hundreds of pieces of evidence, including motor vehicles seized as proceeds of crime, to their owners. A total of 497 motor vehicles, consisting of 10 cars and 487 motorcycles, were returned to their rightful owners.
South Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, stated that these hundreds of vehicles were among the 1,715 pieces of evidence confiscated by the South Sumatra Regional Police from a total of 3,430 motorcycle theft cases. The action was carried out from 2024 to March 2026.
Sandi emphasized that the successful resolution of these cases would not be complete without the return of ownership rights to the victims. This aligns with the principle of restorative justice, which prioritizes restoration.
"Hopefully, the disclosure and return of these vehicles can provide some relief to the people who lost their motor vehicles," said Sandi, Wednesday (4/8/2026).
He added humbly that the police will continue to strive to meet the public's expectations and sense of justice.
"We realize that we haven't been able to solve all cases. But rest assured, we will continue to do our best, working with all senior officials and police chiefs, to provide the best service to the people of Bumi Sriwijaya," Sandi explained.
Through this concrete step of returning evidence, the police hope to continue building public trust and motivating all police officers in South Sumatra to work with precision, professionalism, and responsiveness in protecting the public.
