inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Health stated that it is prioritizing measles vaccination for 39,212 medical personnel and 223,150 healthcare workers in 14 regions with the highest number of measles cases, as an effort to protect vulnerable adults.
"This is also being supplemented by 28,321 general practitioners and dentists undergoing internships throughout Indonesia," said Lucia Rizka Andalusia, Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, on Wednesday (4/7/2026).
Director General Lucia stated that the measles vaccine is mandatory for children with three doses: at 9 months, 18 months, and a booster in the first grade of elementary school.
However, due to the outbreak, the ministry is conducting Outbreak Response Immunization (ORI) in regions with high cases or experiencing an Extraordinary Event (KLB).
"With this outbreak, there's the potential for transmission to high-risk individuals, especially healthcare workers, especially those who work directly with patients, who are at high risk of contracting this infection," explained Lucia.
Therefore, she expressed her appreciation to the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) for granting permission to expand the indications for Bio Farma's measles vaccine to adults. As a follow-up, her agency will immediately administer the vaccinations.
"Currently, the availability of MR vaccine used for the government program is around 9.8 million doses throughout Indonesia. The estimated availability rate is approximately 5.5 months," said Lucia.
Her agency is monitoring the availability and quality of vaccines at the provincial and community health center levels in real time through the Electronic Immunization and Logistics Monitoring System (SMILE).
The Ministry of Health will also coordinate with local governments to implement the vaccinations, especially for healthcare workers.
Lucia reminded that if children receive the measles vaccine early, they should receive adequate protection for life. However, some vaccinations may be missed.
Therefore, she urged parents and guardians to immediately complete their children's immunizations and not wait for their children to fall ill.
