Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) revealed that around 50 people die from drug abuse daily, or nearly 18,000 deaths annually, with most victims aged between 14 and 25.
“There are 1,386 new types of narcotics globally, and 99 have been found circulating in Indonesia. Of those, 94 are already regulated under the Ministry of Health ’s decree,” said BNN Deputy for Prevention Inspector General Muhammad Zainul Muttaqin during a public discussion on Tuesday (4/11/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
He added that vape liquids have been found containing etomidate, an anesthetic classified as a Category 1 narcotic in Taiwan. Nearly 53% of Indonesia’s prison inmates are serving drug-related sentences.
Chief Zainul warned that drug-related deaths worldwide surpass those from war and terrorism, reaching 585,000 annually..
