Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), 63.66% of Indonesia's seasonal zone is predicted to enter the dry season from May to August 2024.

The Deputy of Meteorology Sector of BMKG, Guswanto, explains that in May, several areas will begin to enter its dry season, while the others are still in the transitional season.

"Sunny weather conditions and hot temperature during the day will dominate the weather in early May 2024 in most parts of Indonesia," he explained, as reported by Beritasatu, Monday (5/6/24).

The hot air phenomenon in Indonesia is caused by a yearly cycle from apparent movement of the sun and sunny weather conditions during the day. This condition is different from several countries in Asia which are currently experiencing a heat wave phenomenon.

Explained by Guswanto, the term heat wave has been used by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) which refers to the hot air condition that goes for five days in a row. The daily maximum temperature is also higher than the average temperature by 5 degrees Celsius or more.

Although several areas will experience hot weather with temperatures going higher than 36 Celsius, there are still downpour potentials in other regions. Therefore, people are urged to beware with the disaster potentials due to the extreme weather.
