inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto stated that the government will open free, state-funded medical schools in an effort to address the shortage of medical personnel in Indonesia.
President Prabowo revealed that Indonesia currently faces a shortage of hundreds of thousands of doctors, including dentists. Therefore, concrete and measurable steps are needed, one of which is through the opening of medical schools throughout Indonesia.
"We must open many schools and universities, and I will prove it to all Indonesians. In the near future, we will open medical schools," said President Prabowo on Monday (1/12/2026).
He stated that medical schools, engineering colleges, and other strategic fields will be open to all Indonesians. Furthermore, this level of higher education will be accessible free of charge to all Indonesian children.
President Prabowo hopes this policy will provide equal opportunities for all groups, including children from underprivileged families, to achieve their highest aspirations.
"Medical colleges, engineering colleges, and so on will be open to all Indonesian children, and they won't have to pay; they'll be funded by the state. I want the children of Indonesia to become engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, and generals. That's my dream," said President Prabowo.
According to President Prabowo, education is the most effective means of eradicating poverty. However, developing the education sector requires adequate budget support and clean state financial management.
