inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the inauguration of 166 People's Schools (Sekolah Rakyat) across Indonesia marks a milestone for the state and government in providing access to education to those most in need.

"Frankly, today is not just the inauguration of the People's Schools, but also a moment for all of us in Indonesia that the state is present, the government is present," noted the Minister of State Secretary, Monday (1/12/2026).

He explained that through the inauguration of the 166 People's Schools, approximately 15,000 students from elementary, middle, and high school levels finally have the access to an education.

Prasteyo stated that the People's Schools are intended for those in the most difficult economic situations. He stated that although the People's Schools were initially doubted by some, the government is continuing the program, along with improvements to regular schools.

He further stated that the government is targeting the renovation of at least 60,000 schools this year, as well as improving the quality of teachers and educational facilities.

"This year, we are targeting to renovate at least 60,000 schools. We are also continuing to improve teachers and educational facilities," said Minister Prasetyo.

He added that the government has distributed interactive panels to 288,000 schools by 2025 as part of strengthening educational facilities.

The government needs to take breakthrough steps to break the cycle of poverty without having to wait. Therefore, the government is establishing People's Schools to provide opportunities for all citizens to access education.

"The President also stated that this is the goal of the state: we must provide opportunities for all our citizens, especially in terms of access to education. And this is a non-normative step," said the State Secretary.
