Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman has officially reported 212 rice producers to the Indonesian National Police and the Attorney General’s Office over allegations of fraud and non-compliance with quality, weight, and price regulations.
“These findings have been formally submitted for legal action,” he said on Friday (17/6/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com
Investigations across 10 provinces revealed that 85% of tested premium rice failed to meet quality standards, 60% exceeded the government’s retail price cap, and 21% were underweight.
Despite rising national production—forecast by the FAO to reach 35.6 million tons—rice prices remain high.
“There is no excuse. This is a sign of foul play,” Minister Amran added, estimating consumer losses at Rp 99 trillion.
Some subsidized rice products were found repackaged and sold at premium prices. Authorities are giving producers until 10 July 2025 to rectify violations. Legal consequences may include up to five years in prison and Rp 2 billion in fines.
