inp.polri.go.id - NTT. In recent days, extreme weather that has hit West Manggarai Regency has had a serious impact on community activities in Sano Nggoang District.
From Wednesday night to Thursday, January 22, 2026, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds triggered landslides and flash floods, disrupting road access, communication networks, and power supply in several areas.
The worst impact occurred on the Bambor-Werang hot-mix road, a main route connecting the regions. The road was temporarily closed due to landslides at four different points.
In his statement, the Head of Sano Nggoang District, Alfonsius Arfon, said the most serious damage occurred between Lara Mburak Village and Lara Lujang Village.
"At the Putih landslide point, soil covered approximately 30 meters of the road. Meanwhile, at the corner of Lara Village, the landslide reached approximately 40 meters," said the Head of Sano Nggoang District, as reported by RRI on Thursday (1/22/2026).
He further explained that the Lara Cave area is the most vulnerable as it is situated on a steep cliff with a depth of approximately 70 to 100 meters. Furthermore, a 40-meter retaining wall at the site is also at risk of collapse. In the Lara Lujang area, a large rock was carried away by a landslide, almost blocking the entire road.
This natural disaster not only disrupted transportation routes but also paralyzed other vital infrastructure. Power lines in most areas of Sano Nggoang District were cut off due to poles and cables being damaged by the landslide, and internet service was also disrupted, making coordination and emergency reporting difficult from the field.
In addition to the landslide, flash floods also occurred in the Paku area of Golo Manting Village. On Thursday morning, a public transportation vehicle was reportedly swept away by floodwaters after a river overflowed due to heavy rainfall. Local residents attempted to evacuate the vehicle with whatever equipment they had amidst the strong current.
As an emergency measure, the sub-district government together with Forkopimcam (Sub-district Leadership Coordination Forum) diverted transportation flow via the alternative route Dahot–Pusut–Bibang–Ndiri–Rahak–Rambang–Galang–Werang.
