Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Sampang Sub-regional Police in East Java have deployed a Mobile Brigade (Brimob) unit from the East Java Regional Police to track down a man wielding a sickle who caused a commotion over election invitations.
The incident occurred in Gunung Rancak village, Robatal district, during a dispute about missing voting invitations for the 2024 regional elections.
A video circulating on social media shows the man, identified as “S,” brandishing a sickle and threatening violence, locally known as carok. The situation de-escalated after bystanders intervene, according to antaranews.com.
“Brimob officers are searching for the suspect, but he remains at large,” said Sampang Police Chief Superintendent Hendro Sukmono on Tuesday evening (26/11/2024).
Authorities confirmed that the suspect’s actions violated the Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years for carrying sharp weapons.
“We will act firmly to ensure security and stability, especially during this critical time,” said Chief Hendro, urging the public to remain calm and trust the police to resolve the matter.
The search continued as police emphasized their commitment to maintaining order ahead of the election.
