Australian Consulate Supports Implementation of Tourist Levy in Bali

Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar.  Jo Stevens, the Australian Consul General in Denpasar, Bali, has expressed support for the implementation of a tourist levy of Rp150,000 per person in Bali, effective from 14 February 2024. "This levy is a positive step to support cultural preservation, waste management, and to honor Bali's customs, religious, and cultural aspects," she said on Monday (12/2/2024). Regarding the levy of Rp150,000 per person, Consul General Stevens remarked that it is a reasonable amount that foreign tourists can afford, antaranews.com reported. Previously, Matthew Downing, the Deputy Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Indonesia, also voiced his support for the tourist levy, saying that such tourism taxation policies have been widely implemented by various cities or countries worldwide. I Nyoman Sudharma, the CEO of PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah (BPD) Bali, revealed that since the trial period began on 7 February 2024, approximately Rp1.4 billion has been deposited into the local treasury account.
