Inp.polri.go.id - Manokwari.  The West Papua Regional Police have formed a task force to anticipate money politics during the 2024 General Election across the regions of West Papua and Southwest Papua. The Head of Public Relations of the West Papua Police, Senior Superintendent  Ongky Isgunawan, said that the establishment of the task force aims to prevent various forms of potential fraud that undermine the quality of democratic processes. "The police aspire for elections to proceed fairly, without room for manipulation using money," he said on Tuesday (13/2/2024). The West Papua Police spokesperson explained that the task force comprises personnel from the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the West Papua Police, the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the West Papua Police, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the sub-regional polices, as well as the Integrated Law Enforcement Center at the provincial and district/city levels. The main focus of the task force is on preventive measures by deploying personnel to areas prone to money politics and implementing graduated legal actions in accordance with electoral regulations. "The task force will monitor all polling locations, especially those suspected of irregularities," Chief Ongky said. He urged all members of the community in the 13 districts and cities in West Papua and Southwest Papua to maintain peace and order during the electoral process as well as to remain neutral and uphold the integrity of the 2024 General Election by refraining from accepting money or any form of incentives from election contestants. The police have also engaged religious leaders, traditional leaders, women leaders, and youth leaders to promote clean, honest, and fair elections across the regions. West Papua consists of seven regencies, namely Manokwari, South Manokwari, Arfak Mountains, Teluk Bintuni, Teluk Wondama, Kaimana, and Fakfak. Meanwhile, Southwest Papua comprises six regencies/cities, including Sorong, Sorong Regency, South Sorong, Maybrat, Tambrauw, and Raja Ampat. (ar/inp/hn/nm)
