inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. In an effort to protect wildlife in urban areas, the Indonesian National Police (INP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, handed over a protected estuarine crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
This step was taken to raise legal awareness after a team from the Animal Observer and Protector Foundation (PPS), along with the Directorate of Wildlife Police (Ditpolsatwa), successfully evacuated two 2.5-meter estuarine crocodiles from a residential area in Babelan, Bekasi Regency, in January and February 2026.
The crocodiles were rescued and placed in a shelter and cared for by a medical team from the Ditpolsatwa Korsabhara Baharkam Polri in Kelapa Dua, Depok, before being released into their natural habitat in accordance with applicable law.
A total of two estuarine crocodiles were handed over to the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) at the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (BKI) installation in Limo, Depok City, by Ray Chaerudin, a representative of PPS.
PPS Public Relations Officer, Iswanto, explained that the purpose of this activity, in addition to saving residents from wildlife contact, was to release the estuarine crocodiles back into their habitat in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. It also aimed to educate the public on the importance of preserving the space shared by wildlife in urban environments by reducing hunting and preserving ecosystems. Regards, Sustainable.
