Inp.polri.go.id - Banjarmasin. The Banjarmasin Sub-Regional City Police is currently investigating an incident involving an armed threat against the Chairperson of the Polling Station Organizer Group (KPPS) at polling station 02 Sungai Tabuk, Banjarmasin.
"The KPPS Chairperson has not provided a full statement yet as she is still involved in the ballot counting," stated Police Assistant Superintendent Thomas Afrian, Head of Banjarmasin Sub-Regional City Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, on Thursday (15/2/2024).
He said that the suspect, identified as AR, allegedly made a mistake during the ballot counting at the polling station, leading to a reprimand from the victim, identified as RO.
Witnesses, who are also KPPS members, stated that the suspect, angered by a reprimand from the KPPS Chairperson for breaching ballot counting guidelines, returned to the TPS with a machete.
The suspect assaulted the victim but was promptly apprehended by security personnel and fellow KPPS members. The victim quickly reported the incident to the police before returning to her duties.
Following the arrest, he mentioned a preliminary suspicion of the victim being under the influence of alcohol. Nevertheless, he assured that the ballot counting process is ongoing and well-managed.
