Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Bank Indonesia (BI) has asserted on Tuesday (12/8/2025) that its Payment ID system will not be used to access individuals’ private financial transactions.
BI’s Head of Payment System Policy Department, Dicky Kartikoyono, said that the system fully complies with Indonesia’s Personal Data Protection Law (PDP Law).
“The notion that Bank Indonesia wants to spy or access people’s private spaces is impossible,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Dicky explained that Payment ID aims to analyze potential economic growth in specific sectors, not track personal purchases.
“Tracking who bought shoes or coffee? That will never be done by the Central Bank. We want to see industry growth in shoes, hotels, restaurants, and cafés, never individual data,” he added.
Payment ID, still in trial phase, will not launch on 17 August as rumored. It is intended to support the government’s planned non-cash social assistance program in Banyuwangi this September.
BI confirmed that any financial data access by institutions will require explicit customer consent.
