Inp.polri.go.id - Serang. The Banten Regional Police have intensified traffic management measures at Merak Port, Cilegon, to keep vehicle flows moving as strong winds and high waves disrupt ferry operations across the Sunda Strait.
“Severe weather was forecast by the Meteorology Agency, so we issued early public warnings and prepared traffic engineering measures,” said Banten Police Director of Traffic Senior Superintendent Leganek Mawardi on Friday (19/12/2025).
The measures were implemented after long vehicle queues stretched to the Merak toll road on Thursday, slowing access to the port due to delayed docking and loading. Police optimized buffer zones at upper holding areas, including Proper Area, Tajima, and Pier 7, while directing smaller vehicles to the Executive Pier via lower routes.
Authorities also applied a flexible arrival–loading–departure system, adjusting operations to wave conditions. When weather worsens, crossings may be diverted to Ciwandan Port and BBJ Harbor to ease congestion.
The strategy aims to ensure safety, maintain mobility, and minimize delays for travelers and logistics operators during unpredictable weather conditions.
