The Directorate of Drug Crimes (Dittipidnarkoba) of The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the National Police (Polri), along with Customs and Excise Agency, succeeded in thwarting an attempt to smuggle 84 kg of methamphetamine of Aceh-Malaysia network. The disclosure of the case began with public reports related to the circulation of methamphetamine to Malaysia by picking it up from their waters by the syndicate. "The method is by ship to ship, so there is a pick-up ship from Aceh and then they pick the narcotics up at some point in Malaysian waters," explained the Director of Dittipidnarkoba, Brigadier General Krisno Halomoan Siregar at Bareskrim Polri Headquarters, Monday (21/03/22). Brigadier General Krisno Halomoan Siregar explained that the Aceh-Malaysia drug syndicates network had already been monitored by the police for a long time. During the current Covid-19 pandemic, Indonesia is still a profitable market for drug trafficking. To thwart the smuggling of the illicit goods, Dittipidnarkoba, along with the Directorate of Customs and Excise and the Aceh Police, conducted patrols around the suspected areas. In searching, the joint team found a ship in the waters of East Aceh on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 14.00 WIB. The police then arrested two men, one of whom was the captain of the ship. "After being searched, it turned out there was 84,165 grams or approximately 84 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine inside the ship," said the Akabri graduate in 1991. For their actions, the two suspects were charged with Article 114 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph 1 subsidiary Article 112 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph 2 of Law 35/2009 concerning Narcotics with a maximum charge by the death penalty.
