The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu has signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU)with TikTok to combat the spread of misinformation and hoaxes ahead of the 2024 elections. This partnership marks TikTok's first involvement in promoting a clean and fair election process, free from hoaxes, slander, and bullying.
Bawaslu Chairman Rahmat Bagja said in his address that the MoU aims to fight misinformation that plagued social media during the 2019 elections, By working together with TikTok and other platforms, Bawaslu aims to improve the quality and reasonableness of the upcoming elections, he said as reported by antaranews.com
"We expect TikTok to collaborate with other social media platforms to create a social media channel that serves as a reference point for voters, especially first-time and young voters," he said,
Chairman Rahmat added that TikTok is alsoexpected to provide informative and unbiased election content as a trusted source for voters, avoiding hoaxes and discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, or race.
Firry Wahid, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations at TikTok Indonesia, reiterated TikTok's commitment to election integrity. TikTok will create a dedicated channel for Bawaslu to address misinformation issues during the 2024 election period, he said. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
