Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. The Belawan Port Sub-regional Police in North Sumatra has ramped up nighttime patrols as the XXI National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh-Sumatra 2024 approaches its conclusion.
"Patrols are supported by a platoon from the Mobile Brigade and another from the North Sumatra Police's Directorate of Samapta," said Belawan Port Police Chief Superintendent Janton Silaban on Thursday (19/9/2024).
Samapta is a special unit within the Indonesian National Police (INP) focusing on public order and community policing. This unit is responsible for handling various law enforcement tasks, including crowd control, traffic management, and ensuring public safety during events.
The increased patrols aim to prevent street crimes such as theft, violent robbery, vehicle theft, gang activities, and brawls.
Chief Janton emphasized the commitment to maintaining safety and ensuring that the national event concludes smoothly.
"We are dedicated to keeping the Belawan area secure during the PON. Any street crime will be dealt with firmly," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
North Sumatra Regional Police Chief Inspector General Hermawan Februanto has announced the deployment of precision patrol vehicles in Medan to enhance public safety and order. The Mobile Brigade will continue intensive patrols across the region to support local police in preventing crime.
