Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Agency;s Directorate of Cyber Crime Directorate has warned the public to be cautious of job offers that promise large commissions for easy work.

“To get the commission, victims must top up (send money). This is a common scam tactic,” said Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji, the Director of Cyber Crime, on Tuesday (16/7/2024).

He explained that once victims send money, the scammers delete the provided web link, making it impossible for victims to contact them. He urged people not to trust links sent by strangers or even acquaintances on social media.

Chief Himawan emphasized that online fraud is a transnational crime that can be orchestrated from anywhere and target anyone. 

“It’s crucial to be educated about online activities to avoid falling for rampant scams,” he add, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The warning came during a press conference revealing an international online fraud ring based in Abu Dhabi, led by a Chinese national, ZS. The ring targeted victims in Indonesia, Thailand, China, and India.

The police have also detained three Indonesian suspects involved in the scam, with further investigations underway, he said.
