inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is strengthening its strategic role in supporting President Prabowo Subianto's direction on poverty alleviation, especially through protecting poor groups from the impacts of disasters and climate change.
BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati said that the institution she leads is a pillar of social protection by providing an early warning system so that poor and vulnerable people do not lose assets and fall into new poverty.
"In addition, BMKG also supports strengthening the people's economy through climate and weather forecasts, which are very important for the agriculture and fisheries sectors," said the BMKG Head, Monday (7/7/2025).
These efforts are supported by climate adaptation literacy through the BMKG Field School Program which aims to increase the community's capacity to face the risks of extreme weather and earthquakes.
In the BMKG presentation, it was known that the realization of BMKG Field School for the western and eastern parts of Indonesia until June 30, 2025 was 18.52 percent - 25 percent of the target of 540 community groups, including the Climate Field School implemented in Deli Serdang (North Sumatra) and Gowa (South Sulawesi), and Mataram (West Nusa Tenggara).
The Head of BMKG explained that BMKG's role is also to be an enabler for the green and blue economy, encouraging the creation of environmentally friendly economic activities that are resilient to climate change.
He added that BMKG is also at the forefront of efforts to reduce extreme risks through an adaptive social protection system for high-risk communities.
BMKG also strengthens adaptive digital transformation through modernization of predictions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data. This innovation helps accelerate the country's response to disaster risks.
"The ultimate goal is to keep people productive and safe from the threat of disaster," explained the Head of BMKG.
With this step, BMKG hopes to support the government's national priorities, including food self-sufficiency, renewable energy, and the development of the digital and sharia economy.
