inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) revealed that New Psychoactive Substances (NPS), which are now often found in drug users, has become a concern for BNN in efforts to eradicate drug abuse.

Deputy for Law and Cooperation of BNN Agus Irianto said that by 2024, 1,247 NPS in the world have been developed, while in Indonesia there are 167 types of NPS that indicated are in circulation

"This makes BNN always try to build awareness among all levels of society, especially the younger generation, regarding the problems and abuse of narcotics," said Deputy Agus, Wednesday (10/9/2024).

Therefore, as an effort to realize a young generation that is clean from narcotics, BNN is collaborating with ID Next Leader through a Cooperation Agreement.

The scope of the signing of the Cooperation Agreement includes several things, including the exchange of data and/or information in efforts of Prevent and Eradicating Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) and guidance for the younger generation in the scope of activities organized by ID Next Leader in P4GN efforts both domestically and abroad.

Then, it also includes empowerment through the participation of ID Next Leader in P4GN efforts and other areas agreed upon by the Deputy for Law and Cooperation of the BNN together with ID Next Leader.

Deputy Agus said that drug crimes are one of the extraordinary crimes that have a negative impact on human life, especially the younger generation and Indonesia as a nation.

On the other hand, BNN has measured the prevalence rate of drug abuse in 2023 was 1.73 percent or equivalent to 3.33 million people.

He added, from the same survey, the age group that tends to be a drug abuser is the productive age group in the range of 15-49 years.

"This age group has the potential to hinder the achievement of Golden Indonesia in 2045," said Deputy Agus.
