inp.polri.go.id – The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and Polri signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to seek rehabilitation rather than punishment for narcotics users and addicts. However, this policy does not apply to drug dealers. Head of BNN, Commissioner General of the Police, Dr. Drs. Petrus Reinhard Golose, M.M., said this policy was to save the people aged between 15 and 64 years from drug abuse.
"If possible, we will not apply the criminal justice law system on the users, unless they are dealers, criminal bosses, and they are involved in the network," he explained while in the lobby of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Police, Tuesday (12/7/2022).
He added that in this effort, the prevalence of narcotics users in Indonesia is now at 1.95%. Meanwhile, the number of users in correctional institutions for big cities is above 70%, while in the regions it is around 50%.
Seeing other countries such as Panama, most of the dealers held in prisons are above 80%.
The agreement to seek rehabilitation for addicts and users was signed by seven ministries/institutions, such as the National Narcotics Agency, the National Police, and the Attorney General's Office.
According to the Three-Star Police General, with this mutual agreement, if one of your closest people is one of the drugs addict, you need not worry and can report it to the authorities.
