Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia's U-22 national team coach Shin Tae-yong has confirmed that the team will compete in the 2024 AFF Cup, aiming for a spot in the finals.
"I want the team to reach the final," he said during the AFF Cup 2024 trophy tour in Jakarta on Saturday (2/11/2024).
Coach Shin emphasized the team's determination to perform well despite fielding an U-22 squad, highlighting the quality of players at this age level.
While he has not disclosed the full roster, he revealed several players who previously helped Indonesia reach the semifinals of the 2024 AFC U-23 Cup, including Rizky Ridho and Muhammad Ferrari.
Regarding the inclusion of overseas players, Coach Shin noted that it is unlikely due to the AFF Cup not being a FIFA-sanctioned tournament, which also explains why Indonesia is not sending its senior team.
Following crucial matches against Japan and Saudi Arabia in World Cup 2026 qualifiers on 15 and 19 November 2024, respectively, the U-22 team will begin a training camp in Bali starting 26 November 2024. Indonesia is placed in Group B alongside Vietnam, the Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos.
