inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital is focusing efforts on equalizing internet access to support education, providing equal learning opportunities for students from urban to remote areas.
"In densely populated areas, service quality is relatively stable, while in remote areas, infrastructure strengthening continues," said Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria, Tuesday (1/13/2026).
He explained that internet access is currently available in approximately 97 percent of populated areas, but service quality still varies.
Therefore, the government is working to gradually improve connectivity and the quality of internet access across all regions.
"The national average internet speed is around 45 Mbps, still below the Southeast Asian average. The government is targeting an increase to 100 Mbps in the next three years, including the expansion of fifth-generation networks, which are currently below 10 percent," Nezar said.
He stated that equalizing internet access for education is part of the country's efforts to fulfill the right to learn and narrow the digital divide.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital is working to ensure students have good access to online learning platforms.
"This support forms the basis for digital-based education policies," said Nezar.
